Are You Listening and Teachable?

“Your hands have made me and established me; Give me understanding and a teachable heart, that I may learn Your commandments.” (Psalms 119:73)

As a hurting and heartbroken soul I sometimes forget that God formed me and made me. I think that if we would remember that more we would not only look to Him more in our daily lives. I also think that we would understand that He isn’t going to fail the creation (you and I) that He so intricately and painstakingly made.

Maybe if we simply look to Him out of our suffering and our pain we would understand that He’s trying to teach us and continue to mould us into the people that He wants us to be as His children. As a child I remember how hurtful it was to learn a new lesson about life. Those times didn’t always come in the form of punishment either. Sometimes it was through embarrassment, disconnect from a friend, and even accidentally harming myself yet each time I had a life lesson to learn.

I want to challenge each of us to two things today. First, just be still and know that He is God for a few minutes. Let it sink deep into your soul that He is your Father and that with His hands He made you and established you. Secondly, make yourself teachable. Ask God to help you learn what He is trying to teach you out of whatever situation it is that you are going through. Don’t get caught up in the mistake of pointing fingers at someone else, God is trying to teach you something out of this mess too.

Always, remember no matter what you are going through or how hard and painful that things get, God loves you and He wants His very best for your life. He has good things planned for your future and in Him you can find hope.

Father God, I come to you this morning in humility and brokenness and pray for each and every one who will read this devotion that you have inspired within me this morning. I ask that You would touch each heart and remind each one of us that You are our creator and our Father and that You love us more than we can ever know or imagine. Please open the eyes of our hearts today to be able to see and hear what you are trying to teach us. Open our hearts and give us Your commands and instructions for our lives. God, we are broken before You and each of our needs is different. Please come close to each one of us and work in our situations. Pour out on us Your abounding love and loving kindness, show us Your tender mercies, and Your great grace. Please answer each of our prayers Father even as we lift them up to You. We recognize You as our Father and know that You know best and out of our humility we ask for Your will to be done in our situations. We ask now these things with the authority of the name of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN!
