“be filled with the [Holy] Spirit
and constantly guided by Him.
Speak to one another
in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs,
[offering praise by] singing
and making melody with your heart
to the Lord!”
Ephesians 5:18-19
I saw this scripture and immediately thought of making it into a devotion. I know that I can’t be the only one who wakes up with a song in my heart or goes through the day and at some point I’m just singing in my heart some song that has come to me. Sometimes an old hymn or sometimes a newer song of praise. Even now I can’t help but tap my foot as a song plays in my heart.
I can’t help but think about the part of the verse before that. I’ve found myself sending people encouragements that consist of Psalms and even pieces of songs. Isn’t it wonderful to see this called out in scripture only to know that the Holy Spirit has already been moving you to this!
“O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace.”
Glorious and Majestic God, we come to You in this moment and ask for You to put a song in our heart and praise on our lips. Help us to see Your Glory and Majesty and to have a joy deep in our hearts, a peace that passes all understanding, and a love that’s never ending. AMEN!
