“Oh, that You would hide me in the grave,
That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past,
That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!” Job 14:13
I must admit that this post isn’t going to be what I originally thought when it was placed on my heart. This sort of starting with one set of thoughts out of my own head only for God to direct me in a totally different direction through His Word and soft voice into my heart seems to be a trend that I’m both thankful for and humbled by. I have to admit that it brings me to a place of asking His forgiveness for trying to rely on my own intellect at times before allowing Him to fully develop the lesson inside of me that He really intends for me. This isn’t the point of this post but something that I think we all need to remember. Maybe this is the waiting that I need to write about, maybe what He is showing me is more hopeful than even I had thought.
Waiting isn’t easy, in fact most of the time it’s very difficult, especially if the wait is long. I will say that there are things that I have been asking God for and waiting on Him for over 30 years for Him to answer and provide. In that span of years He has made me 5 very personal promises but, again I’ve been waiting for 24 years for Him to fulfill those promises. I hold these things close and cherish His words to me and the visions of things to come.
When I had the theme for this post laid on my heart I thought that I would embrace that pain, embrace the suffering and ask God into that to be with me. Yet, He had other ideas for this post.
As I started studying through the scriptures I kept coming up with hopeful verses, and verses that are encouraging. God started showing me encouragement through these verses…
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
For the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:25-26
“Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
“This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,
for it will surely take place.
It will not be delayed.” Habakkuk 2:3
“But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun];
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired.” Isaiah 40:31 AMP
“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.”
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.”
“Therefore I will look to the Lord;
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
My God will hear me.” Micah 7:7
“Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you,
and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.” Isaiah 30:18
In these next verses I’m reminded what the depths of every believer’s heart waits and longs for the most. When is the last time that you really contemplated the desire that you have to physically be with Jesus? When is the last time that you thought about what you will say and do when you are able to be physically in His presence for the first time?
I know for me that I long to bow at His feet and yet I know that He will reach down and beckon me to stand. I long to embrace my Lord, I long to wrap my arms around Him as a child holds on to his father. I long to tangibly feel His love and deep healing power pouring out of Him.
Maybe, in the times that we are low, in the times that we are down, in the times that we are frightened; in these times when we are waiting and suffering with these things we should be focused on that hope.
“Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.” James 5:7
“awaiting and confidently expecting the [fulfillment of our] blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,“ Titus 2:13 AMP
Most High God who is our Father in Heaven, I bow my heart humbly before You now asking for Your mercies and forgiveness for not waiting gracefully. You are our Sovereign God and You have the best plans in mind for our lives. I come to You now as Your son along with my brothers and sisters, in Christ, asking for Your hope, asking for You to provide a tangible reminder in our daily lives of Your faithfulness and goodness and Your loving and gracious thoughts towards us so that our faith may grow. Many of us have been waiting for a very long time as our finite beings feel and understand the substance of time. We are struggling to see You in our waiting and feeling passed over and forgotten. Please shine Your glorious face upon us today and every day that you give us breath and life. We thank You for the love and hope freely given in Your Word. Please Father bring to us quickly the fulfillment of the promises that You have made us for life on this earth and for the return of Christ to bring us eternally into Your presence. We love You and we give You thanks and praise. It is in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior that I pray.
“May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the God of hope lift up His countenance upon you, show you His favor, give you His peace, and fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” AMEN!
